How to Find Your Ring Size at Home

One of the most common questions we get at Tungsten Fashions is "how do I know my ring size?" It's a great question — and an important one, because unlike gold or silver rings, tungsten rings cannot be resized. Getting the right size the first time matters.

The good news is that finding your ring size at home is easy, free, and takes less than five minutes. Here are four reliable methods you can use right now.

Why Getting Your Size Right Matters for Tungsten Rings

Before we dive in, it's worth understanding why ring sizing is especially important for tungsten. Because tungsten carbide is one of the hardest materials on Earth, it cannot be reshaped or resized the way gold or silver rings can. If your ring doesn't fit, you'll need to exchange it for a different size. We make exchanges easy at Tungsten Fashions, but getting it right the first time saves you time and hassle.

Method 1: The String or Paper Method

This is the most popular at-home method and works surprisingly well.

What you need: A thin strip of paper or a piece of string, a pen, and a ruler.

Steps:

  1. Wrap the strip of paper or string around the base of the finger you want to wear the ring on
  2. Mark the point where the paper or string overlaps with a pen
  3. Lay it flat against a ruler and measure the length in millimeters
  4. Use the chart below to find your ring size

US Ring Size Chart:

Circumference (mm) US Ring Size
49mm 5
51mm 6
54mm 7
57mm 8
60mm 9
62mm 10
65mm 11
68mm 12
70mm 13

Method 2: Measure an Existing Ring

If you already own a ring that fits perfectly, this is the easiest and most accurate method.

What you need: A ruler or a coin (for comparison).

Steps:

  1. Place the ring on a flat surface
  2. Measure the inside diameter of the ring in millimeters — that's the distance straight across the inside of the ring from one edge to the other
  3. Use the chart below to find your size

US Ring Size Chart by Diameter:

Inside Diameter (mm) US Ring Size
15.7mm 5
16.5mm 6
17.3mm 7
18.2mm 8
19.0mm 9
19.8mm 10
20.6mm 11
21.4mm 12
22.2mm 13

Method 3: Use a Printable Ring Sizer

Many jewelers offer free printable ring sizers online. Simply print one out, cut it out, and wrap it around your finger. Make sure your printer is set to print at 100% scale — not "fit to page" — or the measurements will be off.

At Tungsten Fashions we recommend printing a ring sizer and using it alongside Method 1 or 2 to double-check your measurement before ordering.

Method 4: Visit a Local Jeweler

If you want to be absolutely certain, pop into any local jewelry store and ask them to size your finger. It's usually free, takes about 30 seconds, and gives you a definitive answer. You don't have to buy anything — just get your size and come back to us for the ring!

Pro Tips for Accurate Ring Sizing

Getting the right size is about more than just measuring — here are a few things that can affect how a ring fits:

  • Measure at the end of the day. Your fingers are slightly larger in the evening due to natural swelling from daily activity. Sizing at the end of the day gives you a more accurate fit for everyday wear.
  • Temperature matters. Fingers shrink in the cold and expand in the heat. Try to measure at room temperature for the most consistent result.
  • Wider rings fit tighter. If you're ordering a ring that is 8mm or wider, consider going up half a size from your normal measurement. Wider bands sit higher on the finger and can feel snugger than a narrower ring of the same size.
  • When in between sizes, go larger. If your measurement falls between two sizes, always go with the larger size. It's much easier to deal with a slightly loose ring than one that won't go past your knuckle.
  • Your dominant hand is slightly larger. If you plan to wear the ring on your right hand, measure that hand specifically — it's typically a half size larger than your non-dominant hand.
