If you or your partner wear a size 17 ring, you already know that shopping for a wedding band isn't as simple as walking into a store and picking whatever's on display. Size 17 is well above the average men's ring size (around 9 to 10), which can mean fewer in-stock options and a few extra things to think about before you buy. Here's what you need to know.
The good news: we stock size 17

Why size 17 is considered a large ring size
Ring sizes are based on the inside diameter and circumference of the band. A size 17 ring has an inside diameter of about 25.4mm and a circumference of about 79.9mm, compared to about 19.8mm diameter for an average men's size 10. Many retail stores only stock rings up to size 13 or 14, so anything larger often means a special order.
This isn't unusual. Plenty of men wear size 15, 16, 17 or larger, but it does change how you should shop.
Get properly sized first
Before buying anything, get an accurate measurement:
- Visit a local jeweler and have the exact finger measured at the time of day you'd normally wear the ring (fingers swell slightly with heat and activity).

- Measure a ring that already fits, using its inside diameter.

Material matters more at larger sizes
The material you choose affects cost, comfort, weight and whether the ring can be resized later, and these matter more at size 17 because there's more ring.
- Tungsten carbide: highly scratch-resistant and affordable. It can't be resized and can crack rather than bend under extreme impact, so it's best when you're confident in your size. Larger tungsten rings are noticeably heavier, which many men like.
- Titanium: very light, so a larger ring doesn't feel heavy. It scratches more easily than tungsten. (Compare tungsten vs. titanium.)
- Cobalt chrome: durable, with a brighter white shine.
- Gold (14k or 18k): classic and resizable, but the price rises with the amount of metal, so a size 17 band costs noticeably more than the same style in size 10.
- Platinum: premium, dense and heavy. Try on a similar size before committing, since the weight at size 17 is noticeable.
- Silicone: practical and inexpensive for active lifestyles or as a backup band.
Comfort fit is essential at larger sizes
A comfort fit band has a rounded interior instead of a flat one, so it slides on and off more easily and feels less bulky. At larger sizes, where more metal sits against the skin, the difference is very noticeable. Every ring we sell is comfort fit.

- Specialty large-size retailers: some brands focus on extended men's sizes.

Budget expectations
